I am posting from my new Dell 2-n-1 that work gave me. It is very nice so far, at least for an ultrabook. The screen is nice, but a little too glossy. The keyboard is going to take getting used, the key spacing is just a little different from my last ultrabook. I prefer small laptops since I carry it everywhere, I never know when I might have to work. Besides the weight it makes a terrific tablet and I am glad a opted for the 2-n-1 this go around. It plays Overwatch very nicely at 720p, it will play at 1080p with settings turned down. The speaker(s? ) are decent for a small laptop. The whole thing is metal and seems like it will hold up. The Ryzen does not disappoint.

It’s nice that AMD finally has a mobile product that doesn’t suck. It’s still not as power sipping as Intel’s chip (they both are listed as 15W parts, but in the real world, AMD looks to be using ~50% more power), but you also can’t get that graphics performance out of Intel’s built in GPUs.

I’m seriously considering the ryzen 7 for my eventual desktop ugrade, although that decision will depend on the specs of the upcoming i7-9700k/i9- 9900k

I rarely HAVE to run it on the battery. The battery meter says 4hr 26min at full charge. The GPU is real nice though.

We’ve just gone through trying to set a standard laptop for employees and we’ve pretty much settled on Thinkpad T580s. We don’t need the kind of portability you’re needing and with an 8th gen i7 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD they’re able to handle the demand without getting too bulky or busting the budget.

I know it’s only a mobile, but I am impressed so far. I’m coming from an Broadwell i7 to this and it’s a big difference.

The only work things I do on mine is program network and telephone equipment. Well this one edits the shit out of some xml files, I’ll tell you that much. Downside I have to use usb to ethernet.
